Spring Planting Day 2026: Growing Community in the FCJ Gardens

On June 6, we held our Spring Planting Day, following up on all the hard work from our recent garden clean-up in May. About 20 volunteers joined us for the day, including 10 youth from Youth Central who brought a lot of great energy to the team.

The main goal for the day was getting plants into the ground, and the volunteers did an amazing job. They planted a mix of perennials, like Black-Eyed Susans, which will come back year after year, and colorful annuals, including zinnias, French marigolds, and dusty miller.

Along with the planting, the crew tackled a mountain of weeding and spread a fresh layer of mulch to keep the garden beds healthy and looking sharp for our summer visitors.

More than just getting the work done, it was a really wonderful day to be outside in nature together. Seeing volunteers of different generations working side-by-side, chatting, and enjoying the fresh air is exactly what community at the FCJ Centre is all about.

A huge thank you to Youth Central and everyone who came out to help on June 6. Your hard work has made our grounds a beautiful, welcoming space for everyone who visits this season. We couldn't do it without you!
