The FCJ Christian Life Centre (operating as the FCJ Retreat and Conference Center) is inviting suitable candidates to apply for the position of Communications and Marketing Coordinator.  

This is a key administrative role that leads all communications to promote the organization’s strategy, mission, and culture.

The FCJ Christian Life Centre is a corporate ministry of the Sisters, Faithful Companions of Jesus, since 1980. The FCJ Sisters are ... companions, faithful to the Lord and to each other. They work together in the service of the Church to build the body of Christ. (FCJ Constitutions)  

 

The Mission of the FCJ Centre derives from the charism and spirituality of the FCJ Society. The Centre strives to be an oasis of hospitality and hope where all are welcome, and God can be experienced in a changing world. The FCJ Centre, located in the heart of Calgary, seeks to respond to the spiritual needs of local, national, and global faith communities.

Overall Responsibilities: 

 

Versatile, creative, collaborative, and committed to excellence, the Communications and Marketing Coordinator is responsible for the development and implementation of an integrated communication and marketing plan that promotes the FCJ Retreat and Conference Centre and supports the overall strategic vision and goals of the organization. 

 

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Develops integrated strategic communications and media relations plan to build public awareness and a positive perception of the FCJ Retreat and Conference Centre. 

  • Employs outreach strategies on and offline and a variety of public relations and marketing tactics to engage existing stakeholders and attract new donors, volunteers, and supporters to the organization. 

  • Maintains an active voice in social media on Facebook, Twitter, and other media that are relevant to key communications of families and supporters 

  • Maintains the FCJ Christian Life Centre Website. 

  • Uploads to our website and supports online registration of the various programs and events offered by the Centre. 

  • Writes, prepares, and supports the development of e-newsletters, annual reports, news releases, and electronic media 

  • Researches and prepares grant proposals. 

  • Regular monitoring, analysis, evaluation, and reporting on media relations activity 

  • Plans, implements, and manages all aspects of communications with both internal and external key stakeholders 

  • Analyzes trends and provides recommendations and strategies for future growth 

  • Monitors re-evaluates and adjusts the delivery of plans as necessary 

  • The key point of contact for all inquiries from donors, sponsors, and event participants. 

  • Works closely with the Director, Finance, Business Operations, and volunteer coordinator. 

  • Operates within the philosophy, culture, and core values of the organization. 

  • Other duties as required… 

  • Attend Admin Staff meetings and weekly meetings 

 

Qualifications

 

  • University degree or college diploma relating to digital marketing, communications, or journalism is highly preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience is required. 

  • A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a similar Communications and Marketing role that included supervision of direct reports, budget management, inter-departmental collaboration, and creating communications guidelines. 

  • Hands-on experience working with Canva, Hootsuite, and other communications software is required with a strong understanding of marketing data analyses and reporting.  

  • Advanced knowledge in Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign and Photoshop), WordPress, and Donor Recognition Software as well as WIX and Salesforce  

  • Must also possess hands-on experience with creating various types of marketing collateral and writing and editing content.  

  • Highly developed writing and editing skills.  

  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to produce work with a high level of accuracy. 

  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills relating to planning, record-keeping, and maintaining and executing an ongoing timetable of activities and deadlines. 

  • Excellent verbal and written English communications skills and ability to clearly communicate information in written reports and during team meetings.  

  • Demonstrated ability to plan a project from start to finish, including project design, researching, and budgeting. 

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook 365 applications, including SharePoint, Teams, Zoom, Forms, and Bookings. 

  • Responsive and flexible to evolving responsibilities and able to take initiative, with the ability to successfully switch gears quickly to respond to different priorities. 

  • Exceptional customer service skills and ability to uphold the organization’s service standards, policies, and core values. 

  • A professional and courteous approach to client service with a high level of respect for the diversity of the people served. 

  • High standards of ethics and confidentiality with proven ability to maintain sensitive information and exhibit tact, diplomacy, and good judgment. Experience with procedures and best practices to protect the privacy and security of confidential information is preferred. 

  • Ability to work very independently and develop strong working relationships with various teams and stakeholders. 

  • Willingness and flexibility to occasionally work outside of normal business hours during peak periods as needed. 

  • Access to a vehicle is required for travel 

  • Required to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, and work a flexed workday as will be required to attend events and functions or in preparation for the same.

 

Hours of Work:  

 

A normal work week is expected to be 30 hours. Flexibility for some evening and weekend commitments. 

 

Remuneration:  

 

Negotiable. Candidates who are invited for the second round of interviews are given information on pay and benefits.

FT Kitchen Helper

FCJ Centre is a Catholic, non-profit, ministry of the Society of Faithful Companions of Jesus (FCJ). The FCJ Centre has a staff of 20-25 people, full-time, part-time, and casual employees who serve in the areas of retreat ministry, maintenance, housekeeping, kitchen, and the business office.

Applicants for this position must be willing to work flexible hours during the year based on the FCJ Centre's schedule for retreats, group bookings and special events.

Purpose: To assist cooks

Responsibilities:

  • Dishwashing (the centre is using a high temperature commercial dishwasher)

  • Food preparation tasks

  • Cleaning the Kitchen and Dining areas

  • Restocking dining room

  • Attending general staff meetings, in-house training, and workshops, when required

Qualifications:

  • Food handling experience helpful but not essential

  • A cheerful, cooperative attitude is useful

  • Strong work ethic

  • Ability to be flexible in daily duties (duties change frequently)

The FCJ Retreat and Conference Centre is seeking a Part-Time Housekeeper to join our team.  

FCJ Centre is a Catholic, non-profit, ministry of the Society of Faithful Companions of Jesus (FCJ). The FCJ Centre has a staff of 20-25 people, full-time, part-time, and casual employees who serve in the areas of retreat ministry, maintenance, housekeeping, kitchen, and the business office.

 

Applicants for this position must be willing to work flexible hours during the year based on the FCJ Centre's schedule for retreats, group bookings and special events.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Making beds, laundering, replenishing linens, cleaning rooms and bathrooms in a 60-bedroom facility.  

  • Cleaning mirrors, sinks, toilets, urinals, vanity areas, cubicles, and doors as required 

  • Emptying the garbage 

  • Working closely with the housekeeping colleagues to ensure service requirements are met 

  • Organizing supplies and materials 

  • Vacuuming and mopping hallways, dining areas, conference rooms and other assigned and common areas  

  • Actively contributing to department teamwork and collaboration 

  • Ensuring compliance with all Alberta Occupational Health and Safety regulations 

  • Attending general staff meetings, in-house training, and workshops, when required 

Qualifications: 

  • Previous experience in cleaning, maintenance, or other related fields 

  • Familiarity with cleaning materials and equipment 

  • Strong attention to detail
