Rev. Tony Snow Shares Sacred Wisdom on Belonging, Creation, and Spiritual Journey

Last April 3, 2025, the FCJ Centre hosted an evening of reflection and spiritual connection led by Rev. Tony Snow entitled Indigenous Interpretations of Christ’s Journey in the Wilderness.

The event opened with a prayer led by Rev. Tony, who emphasized the message of love, Creation, and our shared identity as children of God. His words invited participants into a sacred space of contemplation and unity.

One of the connections that Rev. Tony made was about the various Sacred spaces in Alberta that the Indigenous People treasure and how their ancestors learned to understand and respect the natural order of things. It is through going back to those spaces that a deep sense of belonging and interconnectedness can be experienced. He added that Jesus spent time, fasted, in the wilderness which is something similar to the practice of Vision Quest from the Indigenous People. During the Vision Quest, they go on a four day fast (usually), alone, in a remote place to “taste the struggle” and learn about their own purpose in life. He related that Christ’s time in the desert and the Vision Quest both present an opportunity to discern one’s path without any distractions, uncover the gifts one has, and how those can be brought back to be developed for the good of the community.

As the evening drew to a close, participants shared their reflections and expressed heartfelt gratitude to Rev. Tony for the wisdom and insight he so generously offered. The night ended with a final prayer and a traditional smudging ceremony, sending all who attended home with a renewed sense of peace, unity, and spiritual connection.#
