Join us for a prayerful retreat that explores iconography as a window into heaven and the Cross as a journey from darkness into light.
This is a spiritual retreat rather than a technical art workshop, and no artistic experience is required. Through guided reflection, silence, prayer, and the creation of a Byzantine-inspired cross, participants will reflect on the stages of icon writing and the movement of the spiritual life.
Beginning with a wooden cross, we will reflect on how God prepares the heart, meets us in weakness, brings light into darkness, and gradually reveals His image within us. As each cross takes shape through line, colour, and light, participants will be invited to place their own lives before Christ, including the places that feel unfinished, uncertain, or wounded.
The Cross is never the end. It leads us toward resurrection, transformation, and hope. Come ready to slow down, and encounter Christ through the sacred language of iconography.
Mirna Farahat is a Spiritual Director and a Companion in Mission whose ministry is rooted in seeking and recognizing God’s presence in all things. She invites others to enter more deeply into the sacredness of ordinary life and to listen for the quiet ways God reveals Himself through prayer, silence, beauty, symbol, colour, and personal experience.
In guiding participants through the iconography process, Mirna approaches each stage as an invitation to prayer. From the simplicity of the bare wood and the tracing of the first lines to the gradual emergence of colour and light, every element carries spiritual meaning. The creative process becomes a reflection of the soul’s journey, shaped by surrender, patience, trust, and grace.
Mirna creates a contemplative space where participants may encounter God within the work of their hands, recognize His transforming presence within their lives, and become more attentive to the sacred movement from darkness into light. Through this experience, participants are invited to see the cross as a place of love, healing, hope, and new life.
