The Annual "Stuff a Sock, Warm a Heart" Campaign at the FCJ Centre

ree

Every winter season, the FCJ Christian Life Centre in Calgary hosts its annual "Stuff a Sock, Warm a Heart" drive, a community initiative dedicated to providing warmth and essential items to individuals experiencing homelessness. This project collects donations from the community to fill socks with useful toiletries and small gifts, which are then distributed to local organizations.

For those experiencing homelessness, clean, dry, and warm socks are among the most requested items at shelters, yet often the least donated. They are crucial for preventing serious health issues like frostbite and infections, especially during Calgary's cold winter months.

The "Stuff a Sock" campaign is more than just a material donation; it is an act of compassion and a way to remind individuals in need that their community cares. The simple gesture provides a sense of dignity and comfort during challenging times.

This year, we were able to donate more than 500 stuffed socks and an assortment of essential hygiene items. All proceeds from the campaign support local organizations like Alpha House Society, HOPE Rescue Mission, and Mustard Seed, which provide important services to those affected by homelessness and addiction in Calgary.

We would like to thank all the individual donors, schools, and communities, including Enbridge, Our Lady of Lourdes School, Our Lady of the Evergreens School, St. Francis High School, SL Dental Centre, Companions in Mission, Sisters of the Precious Blood, and Canyon Meadows Association, who have been very generous with their donations and support.

The “Stuff a Sock, Warm a Heart” campaign is a meaningful tradition that embodies the spirit of giving and highlights how small, collective actions can make a significant difference in the lives of vulnerable individuals in the community.
