Becoming Sacred Spaces of Sacred Connections
Disability, Belonging, and the Church
with Dr. Ty Ragan
March 28
9:00am - 3:30pm
Roughly 1.7 million Albertans live with some form of disability, one of the challenges for individuals and their family is to find faith communities of belonging, honestly seeing the created image they are. How do we become these spaces, cultivate belonging? Perhaps there is some guidance in ancient stories like Jesus asking for water from a woman at the well…
The day will explore how individuals & faith communities can cultivate authentic belonging for persons with disabilities (visible and invisible- as well as some examples of what these are), engage in reflection and discussions around accessibility, inclusion, belonging, intersecting with the Gospel teaching of Agape, trauma care, healing and cures to understand the beautiful mosaic that is the sacred created Imageo Dei. The Body of Christ is our sacred space, where all parts are needed to thrive, and grow, in sacred connection with one another. Are we up to the challenge to grow sacred belonging in our spaces and hearts?
It will be a commute one day retreat, with lunch and snacks included (coffee/tea) included.
