The FCJ Christian Life Centre (operating as the FCJ Retreat and Conference Center) is inviting suitable candidates to apply for the position of Associate Director. This is an opportunity for a highly motivated individual who has a rich and growing personal spiritual life and who is inclusive and welcoming to other faiths. Grounded in Gospel Hospitality and the Catholic tradition, the Associate Director will help foster an atmosphere, both in the building and the surrounding grounds, conducive to experiencing the presence of God.

Who we are:

The FCJ Christian Life Centre has been a corporate ministry of the Sisters, Faithful Companions of Jesus since 1980. The mission of the FCJ Centre derives from the charism and spirituality of the FCJ Society. The Centre, located in the heart of Calgary, strives to be an oasis of hospitality and hope, where all are welcome and where God can be experienced in a changing world.

The Centre values the inherent dignity and spiritual nature of the human person and strives to serve with respect and compassion. We are pleased to offer a comfortable and welcoming environment for staff and guests. The Centre offers retreats, spiritual direction, counselling, as well as virtual and in-person programming, through outreach or in-house. We welcome other non-profit groups who delight in sharing this oasis in Calgary.

Role of the Associate Director:

The Executive and Associate Directors work as a team. While undertaking different responsibilities, it is expected that the Associate Director is able to replace the Executive Director in the event of the latter’s absence, either permanently or for a significant period of time.

The Associate Director is directly accountable to the Executive Director. Her role includes attendance at meetings of the FCJ Centre Board of Consultants.

Required Education, Competencies, and preferred Experience:

Education:

A post-graduate degree, preferably in theology, scripture, religious studies, religious education, or a related discipline

Competencies:

  • Possesses a grounded Christian spirituality with a passion for and willingness to live out and promote the core values of the FCJ community and the culture of the FCJ Christian Life Centre

  • Possesses a well-developed emotional intelligence with strong personal, collaborative and relationship skills

  • Has strong organizational skills

  • Delegates in a way that empowers staff members

  • Communicates effectively

  • Fosters inclusion, enabling the Centre to serve an increasingly diverse society

  • Maintains integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism at all times

  • Possesses a strong work ethic

Experience in any of the following will be considered an asset:

  • managing human resources

  • understanding finances

  • developing and implementing strategic plans

  • understanding and complying with City, Provincial and Federal legislation regulating non-profits and charitable organizations

  • Using technology for greater efficiency

Hours of Work:

A normal work week is expected to be 40 hours. Flexibility for some evening and weekend commitments is required.

Remuneration:

The Associate Director receives an annual salary of between $60,000 and $65,000, depending on skills and experience. We are interested in candidates who are willing to commit to an initial five-year term of employment, with the possibility of renewal.
