LIVING THE PASCHAL MYSTERY
with Fr. Julian Studden

When we talk about the Paschal Mystery we are referring to God’s plan of salvation which was ultimately fulfilled through four events in Christ’s life. Those four events are His Passion, his suffering and crucifixion, death, Resurrection, and Ascension.
 
The Paschal Mystery is at the heart of the Catholic faith. It is about what Jesus did to save us. The word “Paschal” comes from the Jewish feast of Passover. In the same way that God saved His people in the Old Testament, Jesus saves us in the New Testament.
Through Jesus’ suffering, death, and rising from the dead, we are offered new life. This is not just a story from the past. The Paschal Mystery affects our lives today. It brings us closer to Jesus and gives us hope.
 
They also remind us that suffering and death are not the end. Because of the Paschal Mystery, we have hope of eternal life with God. This is the center of our faith and why we follow Jesus. Let’s take some time off before we enter into Lent and learn how we can live the Pascal Mystery in our daily lives.
 
FR. JULIAN STUDDEN:
 
When Fr. Julian was ordained a Deacon in 1976, which is the first step to priesthood, Fr. Julian made a Charismatic Retreat which helped him to encounter the Holy Spirit who has since transformed his life. All through his priesthood the Holy Spirit used him for His greater glory and is still doing so. The Lord used him to give Retreats to various groups of people to help them come closer to Jesus.
 
In 2004 Fr. Julian migrated to Calgary, Canada because his mother and family lived here. The Bishop of Calgary accepted him and made him the Pastor of St. Michael’s Church, Calgary where Fr. Julian served for eleven years. Later he served as Pastor in other parishes. Bishop William McGrattan appointed him Vicar of the Permanent Diaconate and continue in that role even though he retired in August of 2024. The Lord continues to use Fr. Julian here in Canada to give Parish Missions, Retreats and to draw people closer to Him.

  • 1. Program one-off, series, or workshop 

     

    • If you cancel a week before the event starts, we'll refund your registration fee minus a 15% admin fee. 

    • Example: Program starts July 10 - let us know by July 3 

    • No refunds for cancellations made less than a week before the event. 

     

    2. Weekend Workshops or Retreats 

     

       A. For Live-in Participants: 

    • Cancel at least 2 weeks before the event, and we'll refund your registration fee minus a $75 admin fee. 

     

       B. For Commuters: 

    • Cancel at least 2 weeks before the event, and we'll refund your registration fee minus a $25 admin fee. 

    •  Example: Program starts July 10 - inform us by June 26 

    • No refunds for cancellations made less than 2 weeks before the event, for both Live-in and Commuter participants. 

     

    3. Retreats for Four or More Days  

     

    • Cancel up to 3 months before the event, and we'll refund the full amount with no fees. 

    • Example: Program starts July 10 - inform us by April 10 

     

    Cancellation Fee if Cancellation is Received (of start date): 

     

    • Between 1 and 3 months: $75 

    • Less than 1 month: $100 

    • Less than 1 week: No refund (full registration fee is retained) 

     

    Please note that special circumstances may have exceptions.

    SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES 

     

    We understand that unforeseen situations may arise. While our standard cancellation policy applies in most cases, we are open to considering special circumstances on an individual basis. These could include but are not limited to: 

     

    Medical Emergencies: If you or an immediate family member experience a medical emergency preventing your attendance. 

    Unexpected Personal Circumstances: Situations such as a sudden job loss, relocation, or other unavoidable personal circumstances beyond your control. 

    Natural Disasters or Extreme Weather: Cases where travel becomes unsafe or impossible due to unforeseen natural events. 

    Governmental Restrictions or Regulations: Changes in travel restrictions or governmental regulations impacting your ability to attend. 

     

    Please reach out to us as soon as possible if you find yourself in one of these situations. We'll do our best to accommodate your needs, which might include: 

     

    Providing credit for a future event. 

    Adjusting the cancellation fees based on the circumstances. 

    Partial or full refunds, depending on the severity and nature of the situation. 

     

    We will evaluate each case individually and with empathy, considering the documentation or evidence provided. 

     

    This policy is subject to the discretion of the FCJ retreat and conference centre management and does not guarantee exceptions but aims to offer flexibility in challenging situations.
