UPDATE - March 27, 2020
Dear Friends of the FCJ Centre,
First and foremost, we want to thank each and every one of you for your faithful patronage of the FCJ Christian Life Centre. Your support has been awesome.
We have been continuing to monitor the situation surrounding COVID-19. We have made the decision to close the
FCJ Centre to the public until further notice. This is temporary measure as we all do our part to keep our communities safe.
Although our building is closed, we do strongly encourage you to make connection with your Spiritual Directors by phone or a platform like Zoom or Skype. We are also planning to offer some online projects. Our team is working on these offerings and will post these soon!
At such a profoundly challenging time it is very important that we help to relieve the isolation that many are feeling because of COVID-19.
God of love and hope,
you made the world and care for all creation,
but the world feels strange right now.
The news is full of stories about Coronavirus.
Some people are worried that they might get ill.
Others are anxious for their family and friends.
Be with them and help them to find peace.
We pray for the doctors and nurses and scientists,
and all who are working to discover the right medicines
to help those who are ill.
Thank you that even in these anxious times,
you are with us.
Help us to put our trust in you and keep us safe.
In Christ, with you on the journey
Director, FCJ Christian Life Centre
UPDATE: March 23, 2020 - Momentous changes are occurring as we share this message. All businesses except essential services are being asked more and more to reduce staff or completely. Ontario and Quebec are mandating that all businesses close. We believe that Alberta will be next therefore, beginning Wednesday, March 25 the FCJ Centre will be closed to all. We will keep you updated via our website and social media.
UPDATE: March 20, 2020 - The FCJ Centre is vigorously monitoring the ongoing situation regarding the spread of the Coronavirus. The health and safety of our guests and staff members is our paramount concern.
Like everyone worldwide, we could not have known how different our world would look right now. At the FCJ Centre, we have been focused on understanding the rapidly evolving impact of this crisis on our guest and staff.
We are responding to the best of our ability to the many aspects of the Centre Operations. At this point the FCJ Centre is cancelling all events scheduled from now until April 30, 2020. We will stay open for booking future events. We will also stay open for one-on-one retreats, counselling or Spiritual Direction, following the public health directives and enforcing the washing of hands, the disposal of tissues, and the extreme importance of “social distancing” (2 meters apart).
We are also feeling both helpless and inspired as we watch the incredibly brave front line workers all over the world. We also see how Calgarians are proving over and over what makes Calgary blessed.
We will be reassessing our status and will be updating our website and social media as we move forward.
Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the FCJ Centre at (403) 228-4215.
In Christ, with you as companions on the journey.
Director of the FCJ Retreat & Conference Centre
UPDATE: March 13, 2020 - The FCJ Retreat & Conference Center takes the health and safety of our guests, staff, and volunteers very seriously. As such, we’ve been closely monitoring information on the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak being broadcast from the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC). PHAC has activated the Health Portfolio Operations Centre to support effective coordination of federal, provincial and territorial preparedness and response to the emergence of COVID-19.
We are also closely monitoring this emerging and rapidly evolving situation by considering information being released from the International Health Regulations Emergency Committee of the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as our own provincial and local governing bodies. Our number one priority is the well-being of our community.
At this time, we are continuing to operate business as usual based on the PHAC message that most people in Canada will have little immediate risk of exposure to the virus and for most of the Canadian public, the immediate health risk for COVID-19 is considered low.
What steps are we taking?
We will continue to monitor and follow the guidance of local and federal health authorities.
We will continue to follow our standard practices of engaging in routine cleaning and disinfection processes as well as be super vigilant that we insure clean, sterilized surface areas. Hand sanitizer is being made available throughout the building
Our staff and volunteers have been advised not to report to work if they are exhibiting any flu-like symptoms.
What steps would we encourage you to take?
We encourage you to follow sound hygiene practices, including:
Visit the CDC website for suggested prevention tips.
Frequent hand washing with soap and use of hand sanitizer.
Cover your mouth and/or nose when you cough or sneeze (with a tissue or your inner elbow, not your hand).
Avoid physical contact that may transmit germs—refrain from shaking hands, hugging, etc.
