THE "STILL SMALL VOICE" OF THE MOST HIGH
CAN ONLY BE HEARD IN THOSE MOMENTS OF HOLY ALONE TIME.
The silence of a silent retreat is not an end in itself and into intended as an ascentical practice or as a penance but to enable you to get in touch with God and what is deepest within you.
As Christians we believe that God speaks to the heart of each individual, but we probably will not hear God's "still small voice" if we fill our days with the noise and busy-ness. We can try to fill the emptiness within by the busyness out.
Therefore we encourage those on retreat to leave e-mails behind and to switch off mobile phones. The silence gives you time to change and be different.
Most retreats are conducted in a prayerful silence both during the day apart from the daily meeting with your retreat guide. Most meals are in silence usually with some music. Participants are expected to remain silence around the house and respect the silence of others. This enables participants to move deeper into prayer and meditation. You may well find the silence a liberation and get very used to it after a couple of days.
You can let your relatives or friends know where you are and give them our contact number, and if there is a real emergency you will be contacted.
SIX BENEFITS OF
SILENCE & SOLITUDE
Daily life routines are a constant expending of energy that wears down our spiritual defenses. Consistent moments of silence and solitude allow the soul to regain balance by allowing the Spirit of God to flood in, refiling it with new energy and vitality.
Poor habits and destructive behavioral patterns indicate an out of balance inner life. Taking a time-out give God the opportunity to recalibrate the soul and reestablish balance and inner order. You'll be surprise how a balanced internal perspective will change your outward circumstances.
No one can go through life without incurring a few wounds. The worst hurts are the ones that we never allow God to heal. Burdensome weights we carry around for decades wreak havoc on inner peace. Getting quiet before The Lord will cause Him to bring deep hurts to the surface in order to bring permanent healing and resolution. He can fix it.
The noisy life is often the distracted life and deafens the voice of God. When life is jam packed with activitiy, the soul is left to be influenced by whatever and whoever. What dominates our time, directs our lives. MMaintaining a constant internal dialogue with the Father is vital to understanding His plan and purpose for our life. Turn your ear to The Lord.
Quieting the soul ushers in humility. A restful, quiet soul draws on the inner wisdom of the Holy Spirit instead of human wisdom. Getting the soul quiet before God during devotional solitude prepares it to receive gifts of mercy, peace, righteousness and joy.
Practicing this discipline allows God to continually fill you the unique love and joyful thoughts that He has toward you. In a way it's like calling home and every time God picks up the phone and reminds you who you are, Who you belong to, where you come from and where you're going.
